Young and free, in control of ourselves, we pretend everything is alright
Don't need no one to answer to, for we have judged for ourselves what is right
Failing to cope, learning to hide from ourselves
Giving up hope, struggling just to survive
We keep the lie alive when we can blame someone else and not look to ourselves
We keep the lie alive, for the truth seems to hurt so much more than it's worth
Growing older, assuming the trash in our head turns to wisdom with time
Having learned how to distance our thoughts from our feelings is a passionate crime
Failing to cope, learning to hide from ourselves
Giving up hope, struggling just to survive
Can we accept what we cannot control and be strong in the things we can change?
There is a wisdom that comes from above -- can we break from our life-long derange?
We keep the lie alive when we can blame someone else and not look to ourselves
We keep the lie alive, for the truth seems to hurt so much more than it's worth
