Well, boys and girls, if you ever wanted proof that I fell into the same religious "christian" performance traps that you did ... the words of this song should dispel any doubt!! Actually, by 1980, I was shedding much of this kind of religious mentality -- and if I hadn't liked the tune so much it would not have been included, but the fact was that it still had enough of a grip on me that I did. It wasn't too long before I began to cringe at the very hearing of the song ... and a few of my buddies often reminded me of it. By the way, Jehovah is the name of God, and Yasha is the Hebrew for Joshua, meaning, "savior".

Wake up to morning devotions, making the day count for Jesus
Reading the Bible and praising the Father, start your day with the Lord
Learn to be happy in Jesus, remember he loves you so dearly
No need to worry, he's always beside you. Learn to trust Him instead

Jesus, my savior, keeper, defender, redeemer
He came along to ransom my soul. He paid the price I did owe
Jesus, my savior, keeper, defender, redeemer
He came along to ransom my soul. He paid the price I did owe

Tell everybody of Jesus, share the best news of all ages
Jesus, he died for all sinners and he rose from the dead in three days
Now he's in heaven preparing a place for all those who will trust him
We have the privilege of telling this message to whoever we can

Jesus, my savior, keeper, defender, redeemer
He came along to ransom my soul. He paid the price I did owe
Jesus, my savior, keeper, defender, redeemer
He came along to ransom my soul. He paid the price I did owe
